It's Better Not To Taste The Rainbow

Something's Fishy Seafood anyone? Every time we visit my aunt in Florida we always have some type of seafood along our trip. You can find seafood almost anywhere. Some seafood is plentiful and some aren't. There are certain limitations and guidelines fisherman have to follow so they don't over-fish. Over fishing of course does happen because there is still a lot of places where there is no laws or regulations on some type of fish. The parrot fish is a delicious meal to those who live next to tropical waters. Even though it's rarely eaten in the United States, it's considered a delicacy in other countries around the globe. People love it because of it's crab-like flesh. But eating all this parrotfish could cause problems with our coral reef's.  Not All Fish Eat Each Other Parrotfish are beautifully colored herbivores. Most of what the parrotfish does is eat algae off coral reefs which counts as 90 percent of their day in the oceans (Boyce). The algae t...

Deforestation: Trees Today, Gone Tomorrow

Image
Sweet Exchange Have you ever been at the top of that ski hill, on the white sandy beaches of Florida, or even just enjoying the crisp charming leaves during fall in New England? Trees are all around us and make a scenery perfectly complete. Trees are immensely important to humans as well as wildlife. Ever since humans have walked this earth, we have been using trees for everything from firewood to food sources. In the most recent years we have finally taken note of our deforestation issues. Plastic Overtakes Wood In New England we have an enormous forest that covers all over with beautiful different types of species of trees. Deforestation can happen anywhere with trees, especially like New England. Logging has impacted New England greatly as many trees are used for producing products for things such as pellet stoves and regular wood stoves, which are essential to life in New England. Funding for land conservation has dropped 50% since 2008. (Powell) My last blog post, "...

Plastic Brains are the Future

Ocean Fever  I absolutely love the ocean a little more than the next person. Everyone's stress reliever is sitting and listening to the ocean waves and looking at the beautiful scenery. However, there is a world wide issue that recently has been brought to the attention of the public. This issue includes plastic in the ocean, chemicals going into the ocean and just bad water pollution. We have little to no time left. We have about 5 years from 2020 till we start seeing some of those long term consequences, and they're already starting to occur (Forrest). The nanoplastics floating around are invisible to the naked eye. They're so small they are able to seep right through the pores of our skin and through the blood barrier that protects our brain (Forrest). Yes, we could have toxic, pathogenic nanoplastics invading our most vital organ. Climate Change: The Earth Will Survive, But Will We?

Image
Progress is Impossible Without Change  Have you ever thought about what people do in order to combat climate change? Me too. America itself has had some pretty incredible responses to climate change. From walkouts to state regulations and national precautions. We're looking progress straight in the face and our fight has already started. Do Walkouts Really Work? Walkouts do work, they draw attention and depending on how big they are they make state wide or even national television. September 20th though the 27th of 2019, people across the globe participated in the global climate strike . According to "Global Climate Strike," the strike brought record breaking 7.6 million people out of their homes to speak their minds about this issue. To me this is absolutely amazing. You never get to see the world come together very often, it's both heart warming and heart breaking at the same time. This particular walkout moved millions. The point of walkouts is to be heard b...
